| Research overview | <p>Dr Blakeley's research is concentrated in two key areas. The first area covers issues of democracy and democratization in Spanish politics. Recent themes include electoral politics (e.g.'It's politics stupid.' The Spanish General Election of 2004' (in<em>Parliamentary Affairs</em>, vol. 59, no. 2, 2006); historical memory (e.g. in'Digging up Spain's past: consequences of truth and reconciliation',<em>Democratization</em>, vol. 12, no, 1, 2005) and the 15M movement (e.g. ‘Conflict and Deliberation’ in Elstub, S. and McLaverty, P. (eds.)(2014) <u>Deliberative Democracy: Issues and Cases</u>, Edinburgh University Press. In relation to this area, she is the co-editor of the<em>International Journal of Iberian Studies</em>.</p><p>The second area covers issues of citizen participation and urban governance drawing on case studies in Spain (e.g. in'Local governance and local democracy: the Barcelona model',<em>Local Government Studies</em>, vol. 31, no. 2, 2005) and in the UK (e.g. in'Governing ourselves: citizen participation and governance in Barcelona and Manchester',<em>International Journal of Urban and Regional Research</em>, 34(1), 2010).</p><p>Dr Blakeley's editorial work includes a series of three co-edited books on political concepts with Prof Valerie Bryson.
