Research overview	<p>I work at the intersections of language, mind and health(care), exploring mental/physical illness and what it means to be unwell through the language of patients, carers, healthcare professionals, journalists, poets, writers, etc. I examine forensically <u>how</u> they say what they say. </p><p>I use discourse analysis to investigate patterns in everyday language around mental and physical health(care) and stylistics to investigate the representation of mental and physical illness in fiction and non-fiction. All of this is aided by corpus linguistic methods, which allow me to handle large data sets and focus on statistically significant results. Metaphor, personal pronouns, and negation can be particularly revealing when it comes to illness, so I often focus on those.</p><p>Keywords: Non-literary stylistics; discourse analysis, metaphor, corpus methods, medical humanities, health communication.</p>
