Description The <a href="http://crc.open.ac.uk" property="http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/homepage">CRC</a> was created in 2001 to embody the OU’s strategic, long-term commitment to excellence in computing research. Its collaborative infrastructure brings together the distinctive strengths of two units: the <a href="http://dev.crc.open.ac.uk/organization/kmi" property="http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/page">Knowledge Media Institute</a> (KMi) and the <a href="http://dev.crc.open.ac.uk/organization/computing" property="http://xmlns.com/foaf/0.1/page">Department of Computing and Communications</a>. Our overall approach is to blend theory and practice deploying our systems into real-world settings often in partnership with local and international industry. Our research is constituted around three themes, which operate as intellectual centres of gravity and support interdisciplinary wherever appropriate: <a href="http://dev.crc.open.ac.uk/theme/human-centred_computing">Human-centred computing</a> (HCC); <a href="http://dev.crc.open.ac.uk/theme/knowledge_media">Knowledge media</a> (KM); and <a href="http://dev.crc.open.ac.uk/theme/software_engineering_and_design">Software engineering and design</a> (SEAD).
