• Dr Carolyn Price considers the theme of Trust in Plato's work "The Republic".
Carolyn Price. Carolyn Price is a Senior Lecturer in the Philosophy Department of the Arts Faculty at The Open University. Carolyn joined the Open University in 2000 after eight years teaching at Oxford. Her first degree was in Classics and she still has a love of ancient philosophy: since working at The Open Univeristy she has been able to write module material on Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus and Seneca. Her research interests are in contemporary philosophy of mind. She's particularly interested in questions about meaning, rationality and emotion, and the connections between them. Two of her recent papers have been on love and on grief. Both these emotions are sometimes said to be inherently irrational - grief because it is (supposedly) futile and love because it is (supposedly) inexplicable. In response, she tries to find a purpose for grief and an explanation for love. She develops a fuller of account of emotion in her book 'Emotion', recently published by Polity Press
First published on Mon, 01 Apr 2002 as Trust in Plato's Republic.
