|Description||The RAE 2008 results announced on 18th December recognise the dramatic rise of OU Computing research since 2001. Climbing over 40 places up the ranking of UK universities, OU Computing research is now placed joint 16th alongside universities such as Bath, Bristol and York (1). 25% of OU Computing research was judged by the RAE panels to be"world leading"(4*), with a further 45% regarded as"internationally excellent"(3*). The remaining 30% was classified as"internationally recognised"(2*). 24 researchers were returned, up from 22 in the RAE 2001 submission when OU Computing research was rated as"3a"(using the previous grading system).

This improvement comes after a sustained and substantial strategic investment in Computing research by the OU, including international recruitment, a focus on key research themes, a sustained programme of staff and student development and research training, and investment in the physical infrastructure, including a new building and ambient computing research laboratories.

Related Links:

Guardian Education rankings ofcomputing research

Times Higher Education Supplement:RAE 2008 results

OURAE results statement

]|
