Elton got into Classical Studies not via school but children's BBC: the futuristic cartoon Ulysses 31 and the retelling of Homer by Tony Robinson (Blackadder's Baldrick). His research still grapples with these stories and how they raise questions relevant for us in the 21st century, such as who has the right to speak or where public discussion can best take place. He is also using the latest computer technology to explore the world of the fifth-century BC Greek historian Herodotus in terms of networks not an East/West polarity, and bring that world into everyone's home through GoogleEarth.
Filmed February 2010
