<p>Emma completed her PhD thesis on the role of emotion in undergraduate legal education. Her main areas of interest are legal education, law and emotion, multiple intelligences and emotional intelligence, law and empathy, law student wellbeing and the role of emotion and wellbeing within the legal profession. </p><p>Emma was thematic lead for critical and reflexive pedagogies in the Faculty of Business and Law's Centre for Knowledge in Organisations and Professions. This was developed into the FBL Centre for Scholarship and Innovation. Emma is currently Director of this Centre.</p>
<p>Emma joined the School of Law as a Lecturer in Law in December 2014 and became a Senior Lecturer in October 2018. She has worked as an Associate Lecturer on a variety of law modules since 2006. </p><p>Emma's first degree was a BA (Joint Hons) in Law and Politics. She then went on to complete the LPC and qualified as a solicitor in 2001. After several years working in construction law, Emma retrained as a teacher, completing a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training at Manchester Metropolitan University. She has since taught in both further and higher education. She also has an MA in Politics and Contemporary History and a MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration and is an Accredited Mediator for civil and commercial disputes.</p><p>Emma is a member of the executive committee for the Association of Law Teachers, and joint acting general secretary for the Commonwealth Legal Education Association. She is also a member of the Society of Legal Scholars' sub-committee on legal education and secretary to the Legal Education Research Network steering group. She is co-convenor of a stream on law and emotion (with John Stannard of Queen's University Belfast) at the Socio-Legal Studies Association's annual conference and co-lead of the UK Law and Emotion Network. </p><p>Emma is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. She is also an Academic Fellow of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.</p>
